Rome produces large brilliant glossy red fruit that resists bruising and is a heavy cropper. Good eating and becomes very sweet the riper it gets. Originating on the northern bank of the Ohio River in a town called Rome in the early 1800's where it appeared from a sucker below the graft of an orchard tree. Was grown commercially for some time in the USA and prized for cooking as it holds it's shape. Keeps well. Suitable for low-chill climates.
